Using this calendar

No account needed — anyone can browse a community's calendar.

  • Every community has its own web address, like calendar9.org/ca/demo — the two-letter part is a U.S. state or Canadian province code, and the rest is that community's own short name
  • Don't have the full address handy? calendar9.org's own homepage has a Go to a community box right at the top — type just the state/slug part (like ca/demo) and it takes you straight there. No account needed for any of this
  • Browse the calendar in Month view, or switch to Agenda List for a simple scrolling list
  • Every day shows both the Gregorian date and the Bahá'í (Badí) date, side by side
  • Feast Days, Holy Days, Ayyám-i-Há, and other Significant Dates are highlighted so they stand out
  • A small violet marker on a date — like 1 May 1912, when 'Abdu'l-Bahá laid the Wilmette Temple's cornerstone — marks a one-time Bahá'í history milestone. Most mark North American Bahá'í history; a handful mark a global turning point instead, like the start of a new epoch of the Formative Age. These are deliberately separate from Feast/Holy Day highlighting (they're history, not a Badí calendar observance) and don't repeat every year — tap the date (or its line in Agenda List) for the full story
  • Each history marker is labeled with the specific Bahá'í-history era it falls in — Heroic Age for anything from 1844 through the Ascension of 'Abdu'l-Bahá in 1921, Formative Age for anything after — rather than a single generic label
  • During the 19-day Bahá'í Fast, each day also shows that community's own sunrise and sunset time
  • A Feast or Holy Day time marked unscheduled is just the platform's own default guess — that community's admins haven't set a real gathering time yet
  • Use Previous / Next to look at other months, or the double-arrow « / » right next to them to jump a whole year at once
  • Reports and announcements show up on their date — one that recaps a specific gathering links straight to it
  • A report or announcement's photo, or embedded YouTube or SoundCloud player, shows as a small tappable badge (📷 Photo, ▶ Video, 🎵 Audio) — tap it to expand right there, so the page (and the printed page) stays clean and scannable
  • An event with a virtual option shows a Join online link — Zoom, Google Meet, or similar
  • Browse every photo, video, and audio clip a community has ever posted from its Media Gallery page, reached from the Month/Agenda pulldown menu — filter by type, and jump straight back to the post it came from
  • Know another community's own web address (its state/slug, like ca/demo)? Use Go to another community from the Month/Agenda pulldown menu to jump straight there without typing the full address
  • Visit one community more than any other? Tap Set as Home from that same menu — a standalone 🏠 Home link then appears at the top of the page (on both the calendar and the Media Gallery) on every other community you look at afterward, getting you back in one tap. calendar9.org's own homepage also shows a 🏠 Continue to (your community) banner once you've done this, so it's a fast way back from there too. This is especially handy if you've installed Calendar9 as an app, since there's no address bar there to type a different community's address into. Nothing becomes your Home automatically — it only changes when you explicitly tap Set as Home or Remove as Home
  • On a computer, or a tablet with enough screen room, Month view shows the traditional day-by-day grid — click any day with something on it to see the full details (times, locations, descriptions, and media), right there without leaving the page
  • On a phone, held upright or turned sideways, Month view automatically shows as a scrolling, color-highlighted list instead of a grid — a Feast or Holy Day's full details, including its own Sunset time, already show without tapping anything
  • Print either view — Month for a clean one-page grid, or Agenda List as a two-column list. Printing isn't available in dark mode; switch to light mode first. If you installed Calendar9 as an app on your home screen, tapping Print there opens the page in Safari instead, since installed apps on iPhone/iPad can't open the print screen directly — tap Print again once it opens there
  • Switch to dark mode from the menu, if that's easier on the eyes
  • Text on the calendar shows at a larger, easier-to-read size by default — switch to Normal text from the menu if you'd rather see more on screen at once

Installing Calendar9 as an app

  • Calendar9 can be installed on your phone or computer like an app — it's the exact same site, just opening in its own window or icon instead of a browser tab. No app store, no download, and it's free
  • You can install it from the homepage or from any community's own page — either way installs the same app
  • iPhone or iPad (Safari): tap the Share icon (a square with an arrow pointing up), then Add to Home Screen, then Add. Requires iOS or iPadOS 16.4 or later
  • Android (Chrome): an Install button often just appears on the page itself — tap it and confirm. If not, tap the ⋮ menu in the top corner, then Install app (sometimes shown as Add to Home screen)
  • Windows, Mac, or Linux computer (Chrome or Edge): an Install button often just appears on the page itself, or look for a small install icon at the right end of the address bar
  • Mac (Safari): open the File menu and choose Add to Dock. Requires macOS Sonoma (14) or later — older macOS versions can't install apps from Safari
  • Firefox doesn't support installing apps directly, on phone or computer — bookmark the page instead, or use Chrome, Edge, or Safari to install it
  • Installing it in one browser only installs it there — installing in Chrome doesn't also install it in Edge, Firefox, or Safari on the same device; each one needs its own separate install if you use more than one
  • To remove it later, delete it the same way you would any other app or shortcut. On iPhone or iPad, if a reinstall looks or acts stale, Safari may still be holding onto the old version behind the scenes — clearing it via Settings → Safari → Advanced → Website Data, then removing calendar9.org there, usually clears the way for a truly fresh reinstall

Exporting to your own calendar app

  • Any event, Feast, or Holy Day with a real scheduled time has a small 📅 Add to external calendar button next to it (in Agenda List, or in a day's detail view from Month view) — it adds just that one date to Google Calendar or Outlook.com with one click, or downloads a file for Apple Calendar and most other calendar apps
  • To keep your own calendar in sync with a whole community's calendar automatically, use Subscribe to calendar from the Month/Agenda pulldown menu — add the link it gives you to your calendar app once, and new events keep showing up on their own from then on, with no need to add them one at a time
